The owl hooted eerily outside my window. I was sleeping soundly as I was dog tired. The house was so quiet that I could even hear a pin drop. My father and mother were not at home as they had something important to attend. Suddenly, I suspected that something was suspicious. I stole out of my bed and tiptoed quietly out of my bedroom. I opened the door and crept out of the house. There was no one.

“Is there anyone?” I asked. There was no answer too. I decided to check each part of my backyard to make sure that it was safe. It was so dark. I was shuddering in fear. I just had a strange feeling of someone in the house but there was no one outside. Nobody.

All of a sudden, I smelt something burning and smoke billowing out. When I turned back, I gasped in horror. Someone had set a fire! Without hesitation, I ran into my house. The curtains were all burned. Beads of perspiration were dripping down my forehead ceaselessly. My heart sank, body iced and mind blanked in an instant. I did not know what to do. I prayed for god to plant an idea in me. The fire was spreading and spreading and the flames were bigger and bigger.

Immediately, I called for the fire brigade. Suddenly, I remembered that my precious bear was in my room! It was the most memorable present I had gotten from my grandmother. I was trying to get my way through the fire. No matter what, I will still try to get my toy bear. No choice. It was the only present my grandmother gave me before she died.

When I looked at my precious toy bear, my heart felt like as if it had been stabbed. I cried like never before, at the scene. Torrents of tears streamed down my cheeks and my body shook as I sobbed uncontrollably. I could not believe what I saw. The toy bear had been burned! Plumes of black smoke were billowing out of the house like giant mushrooms. Tongues of red and orange flames licked the walls of my room. I was horrified. Utterly horrified.

The fire was getting fiercer and bigger by the seconds. It seemed to be devouring everything which was obstructing its way. Time was running short. My heart was in my mouth. My stomach was churning non-stop. I could hear the loud thumping of my heart. Will I die so terribly? Every minute, every second was crucial. I was once again finding my way out but to no avail.

Help had not even arrived. I did not want to die but my face was very pale. Wails of siren could be heard finally. The fire brigade had came followed by the police. The firemen clad in red immediately connected the fire hose to the fire hydrant and started spraying at my house in sweeping motion. They rushed into the house and rescued me. I was sent to the hospital by the ambulance as I was slightly burned by the fire. I was groaning in agony and could not resist that excruciating pain anymore.

When I was awake at the hospital, my parents were already there accompanying me. The police were there to gather clues from me. I was too weak to make any statements but I forced myself to do it. It was a traumatic experience for me. As the saying goes, “Fire is a bad monster but a good servant.”

After a few days later, the police found out that the fire is caused by a man who was a loan shark that had mistaken our house as somebody’s one. The man actually had narrow sloping shoulders and his eyes were twinkling with mischief. I was very frightened by that harrowing experience. Fear. My life is almost filled with fear...

Composition 1

“That’s it! My patience is running thin and I am at the end of my tether!” I lamented furiously. This was not the first time my classmates called me a nerd. I was walking with heavy steps and dragging my feet home from school. It was such a tiring day after a whole day of work! I decided to take the shortest route that is quite deserted.

Suddenly, someone caught my attention. Was I dreaming? I could not believe what I had seen. It was our school’s head prefect, Kelly. She was with two boys extorting money from a young boy named Jack. Muscles were bulging out from the boy’s broad arms. Their eyes were twinkling with mischief. They were in a group of gang trying to bully a small and scrawny boy. I could see a smirk on Kelly’s lips. Her penetrating eyeballs and an evil glint shot me a glance. She also had a sinister smile on her face.

“Give me all your money now!” one of the boys, Chris, shouted at him. Kelly ordered them to punch Jack if he refused to give them. Chris pulled Jack’s collar and threatened him to take out all his money. He was staring daggers at Jack. They were clenching their fists, ready to punch him. The terrifying apparition approached him with an evil, menacing smirk on its face. He was petrified out of his wits. He was paralysed with fear. Tears started to stream down his cheeks.

Those words from the gangster weighed me down like an anchor. My heart sank, body iced and mind blanked in an instant. Should I help him? He was wobbling like a jelly. Tension and fear mounted. Plucking up my courage, I immediately ran towards them and tried to prevent him from being bullied by any of them. She was about to give him a punch but luckily I shielded the young boy.

“I... thought you are...a head prefect,” I mumbled and my heart was palpitating wildly. Would I get into serious trouble? My heart thumping faster and faster each time frightening thoughts raced through my mind.

“Shut your gap! Do you think that I really care about it?” Kelly sneered. I realised that she was actually a hypocrite. The two boys were standing at the side crackling their knuckles. They were all showing signs of impatience and were ready to punch us at any point of time. Being a kong fu expert , I decided to use the easiest way to tackle them. I brought them to the ground each at a time and they were all groaned in agony. I could not imagine that I was so brave and strong.

Without hesitation, Kelly and her gang fled the scene. Fortunately, we did not suffer from severe injuries. It was such a traumatic experience for Jack and me. I did not know Kelly had such a bad personality. He thanked me ceaselessly for shielding him. He wanted to reward me with a handphone but I declined it politely. Actually, he came from a very rich background that was found out by Kelly so they planned to extort money from Jack.

The next day, the principal announced about the incident. Kelly was ashamed and hung her head in mortification. Her face was full of regrets but it was too late. We could not turn back the clock. I was no longer called a nerd but a hero...

Chapter 5

After a few days of gathering all the clues and the fingerprints, the policemen confirmed that the murderer was actually someone that I know. I was deplorable when I heard the news. It was someone that is very close to me and whom I know very well. It was my dad! I could not even let myself believe it. I did not even know how he did it.

Now I know, this is why he did not come back home this few days and I could not even contact him. This make me very sad. Extremely sad. I was getting more and more bathetic.

These few accidents had already made me depressed and now another case made me more and more melancholic. I did not talk to any people at that point of time and I was living in my own "world". The policemen have arrested my father.

I went to the police station without hesitation to see my father. I could not believe it. I hung my head low when I saw him. I would forgive him no matter what as he is still my only one father. My father was begging the police officers to let him talk to me.

I was once again mawkish. The police officers agree but for only a short while. My father went towards me and gave me a bear hug. I could feel tears streaming down his cheeks ceaselessly but I could not do anything to help him at all.

"Take care of yourself," my father was crying non-stop. This may be the last words that I could hear from him as I was not allowed to visit hm anymore.

Everyday I woke up, I would start thinking of the happy moments that I spent my precious time with my father. Sometimes, I would even cry but nobody knows. Nobody. It took time for me to overcome the emotions as it was an unforgettable experience. I could only blame on myself! All those accidents had happened to my close ones in only one day.

How unfortunate I am? I wished I could save my close ones and sacrifice my own life as I could not forgive myself. "Thank you Tom for being my very best friend, I would always remember you!" This is what I could only say to him, my forever best friend. After a few years, I could overcome my emotions and became more optimistic. I was waiting for a day to see my father to come home again...

Chapter 4

Slowly, I opened it up. To my utmost horror, it was a corpse with bloods stains on a knife that was left by the murder. There was only a body but no heads! How ridiculous! We were trying to calm ourselves down as we were shocked. Very shocked. We noticed a man who was jogging so we ran as fast as a wind towards him to seek help.

After telling him what actually happened, he immediately called the police. The corpse might belong to someone that was murdered a few days ago. No one knows that there was a bulky plastic bag found a the nearby reservoir as it was deserted. No one. Fear gripped my heart. I could not forget the corpse that I saw as it was a horrifying experience. I have never seen a corpse before.

A wail of sirens could be heard. The policemen had came, followed by a ambulance. The paramedics swam to save Tom that had died in the water. They took a long time just to untie the water plants from his leg. He died without having done wrong. I really felt sorry for him and George was holding tightly to his hand, crying profusely. George was very sad as he knew that Tom died as he wanted to save George and I in time. Tom's death had made me extremely sad and it was like an arrow that shot my heart. It was a day of "disappointment" and a hair-rising experience as we had to see two died bodies at a time.

This moment was unforgettable. This experience was like a gold dust and it left an inedible stain in my mind. I could not even let myself forgot about it. Some of the policemen was combing the place and the corpse for clues and the most important thing was the fingerprints left carelessly by the murderer. While some of the policemen was taking sentences made by George and me so that they could gather the clues.

The corpse was taken back by the policemen to do a DNA test. It is done to find out either who was the murderer or the victim. They found some fingerprints too so they used run through the database to find out who actually was the murderer.

Find out who was actually the murderer in the next chapter!!!

Chapter 3

The current was smaller and smaller. Grabbing this golden opportunity, I swam with deft strokes towards the floundering George. At that time, Tom's track pants had stucked onto something below.

It pulled him down. He could not even struggle to come up of the water. It was too late to save him as I could not hold my breath anymore. Tom had died! I blame myself for not saving George and was going to drown. If this did not happen, Tom would not have died just to save us.

Summoning my last ounce of strength, I reel towards George. After what seemed like eternity, I managed to reach him in the nick of time. Without wasting any time, we swam back to shore. The smell of the bulky plastic bag was once again "occupying the air". It was so strong. This had made George to cough and splutter out the water. He had regained his senses. I was glad about it.

However, Tom death had made me very sad. I think the water plants below had pulled him down. He was my only friend in school. Other then that, I had no other friends anymore. Torrents of tears streamed down my cheeks and my body shook as I sobbed uncontrollably. It was all my fault! We cannot turn back the clock anymore. If I could do that, I would rather sacrifice my life but it was too late. I have no choice. George was traumatised after this accident but he dared not to pretend anymore. He knew that he was in the wrong.

"I found this bulky plastic bag floating and was curious about what was inside. As I tried to open it, I lost my balance and began to drown...," George did not know it was very dangerous but he was overcome by curiousness. George thanked me umpteen times for saving him. We went to see what was actually inside the plastic bag. Tension and fear mounted. My heart began to beat faster every second as frightening thoughts raced through my mind.

Mustering all my courage, I decided to untie the ribbon that was used to tie the bag. We need to get some help as this might be a murder case that was reported in the news. They did not managed to find the body of a woman that was chop into pieces. This had made me tremble like a leaf. What could it be?

Chapter 2

"How exciting it could be!"Tom was pretending to be policemen and is going to solve a case. George was helpless! He could not even float above the water and was struggling to gasp for air. Fresh air.A haze of fear had surrounded him and left him frantic with horror.

Without hesitation, we plucked up our courage and jumped into the water. Until now then we realised that George was not playing a fool. With swift strokes, I swam against the current to George. Tom decided to take the bulky plastic bag and I would save George. Tom's face was as pale as a ghosts.

Frightening thoughts raced through his mind. Would there be money or corpse? Wild thoughts was racing through my mind. The thoughts made him sick in the stomach. George was bobbing up and down like a yo-yo, desperately gasping for air. He felt desolate. Would he die in front of me? Fear had engulfed me.

All of a sudden, a wave of roaring water smacked me in the face and tumbled me like a tissue in the storm. I struggled to keep afloat in the water. I could feel darkness enveloping me as the swelling water rose above me.I was sinking in a rock in the water.

On the other side, Tom had reached the bulky plastic bag and swam back to shore(the grass). A awkward smell was coming from the bulky plastic bag. Tom was holding onto the bag and trembling in fear. He suspects that it should be a corpse but he dared not to open it. My chest seemed to explode in pain. My lungs were at bursting point. Would I die? I did not want to end my life just like that.My heart palpitated wildly.

I tried to gasp a precious mouthful of air. Wonderful air. Tom was shocked. He stood rooted to the ground as he did not know what to do. After he regained his senses, he immediately jumped back to the water. There was no time to lose. George became weaker and weaker. He had no strength to move. Although he could not really move, he tried to still stay above the water.
